How Sweep It Is.

Thu, October 27, 2005 - 10:52 AM
So the WhiteSox swept the lowly Houston Astros. I was able to see most of three of the games and although none of my teams made it to the World Series, I took great joy in watching Texas lose.

If baseball is a truly American sport (which it is) the WhiteSox are decidedly more representative in their roster of America than the Astros. While the Astros do have some Dominican guys on their team, the Sox have Dominicans, African Americans and a Japanese guy. They even have guys from Venezuela and Cuba. Why, they're practically Communists, or Democrats.

When the series moved to Houston we got to see Barbara Bush's whitehead gray hair sitting behind home plate each night. The first night she was sitting with the other Bush son (the one who got busted for the Savings and Loan scams, I think). When they did a tribute to the victims of Katrina, they gave us a close up of Barbara, looking all concerned and pious. This after she'd said:

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."

What a bitch.

At Minute Maid Park, watching the shots of people in the stands during the game was like watching a Republican Convention. So many Texas whiteys. It looked like none of those underprivileged folks made it out to the game.

Jenny and I were playing "Find the Minority". Throughout the entire 14 innings as the Texas white team played on the field, we counted one mexican kid and one black guy in the stands.

We watched the Astros fans cheer, we watched them sweat. We watched them praying to Jesus to help their team win and when Astacio blew it in the 14th by letting the Sox get a homerun, you could see it on the white people's faces. You could see their ultimate disappointment. How could we, TEXAS, lose? We've got god on our side. We run the WORLD. Yea right...

It was beautiful.

I can't help hoping that this is just a harbinger of the beginning of the end of Texas' reckless reign over America. Compared to the post 911 goosestepping, the media (except FoxNC of course) are kind of reporting the bad news of this selected president. How he lied to get us into war, how he is purely for the rich, how he is dismantling any semblance of a safety net, how top Republicans like De Lay and Frist, Cheney and Rove, are all under investigation.

Houston, Texas is a white christian enclave where the rich run the show and the poor will all get their reward in heaven. It is ground zero of the Red States, and now it is flooded with refugees from Katrina. As Barbara said, "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas."

The real America, the one that is vital and rich because of its diversity, will win the battle for the soul of our nation.

Sorry Texas, your attempt at creating a Corporate Fascist state is failing. Your lies are crashing down around you. No matter how many yes men Bush surrounds himself with, there will always be people who won't go along and who will expose you. You'd better make sure those voting machines are all wired up and ready to tabulate in your favor because even the Red Staters who voted for you last time are getting fed up with losing their sons and daughters in your war. They're fed up with your oil buddies gouging them with gas prices. They're fed up with health care costs that are out of control. They're fed up with your incompetence and inability to take care of our country.

Bush and Co. have looted and pillaged our country for long enough. They've lied and used our military so they could profit long enough. You're down 3-0 in the series Bush and your chances of winning are fading away.

Of course, Baseball *is* just a game. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

Go SOX!

i agree with you about houston, johnny BUT
chicago has had its problems as well.

julia and i both noticed that all of the folks celebrating at that bar in chicago were white. the south side, where the sox fan base is located, is mostly white. the KKK has marched in the southern suburbs of the windy city, often with the whole hearted support of the populace of those cultural backwaters.

let's not get into the 1968 democratic(?) national convention in chicago, where mayor daly had his rat fuck racist asshole police department attack protesters, journalists and innocent bystanders.

america is becoming an Us or Them society, my friends.

i'd suggest we all go shopping soon at J Crew...

oh yeah, i'm glad that two teams made it that have'nt been to the series in years, like the sox, and never before, like the astros, even though i used to call them the "assholes" when i was a reds fan...

sports. feh. give me FatBirds
the only thing i like about sports is that the Human sits still for three hours and puts the Fire Tube in his mouth, which makes him slow.

sometimes he yells at the Jabber Box for no good reason, and i have to jump off of his lap, but most of the time he just takes a nap.

then i either nap with him, or i get up on the coffee table and steal whatever food he's left out.
